„Smrt Ivana Iljiče“ Lva Nikolajeviče Tolstého popisuje zápas člověka v chorobě a v umírání. Téměř jediné úlevy dochází díky soucitu svého věrného sluhy, který mu nelže. Jinak je osamělý: nikdo si nevšímá jeho potíží psychických a spirituálních, a lží je ještě umocňuje. Je uvedena řada úryvků z této novely, která je velmi doporučena k promýšlení.

„The Death of Ivan Ilych“, Leo Nicolajevich Tolstoy´s superb story, describes the fight of man during his sickness and his dying. The only relief from his suffering is due to the constancy and compassion of his servant, who alone does not lie him. His loneliness is intensified by the fact, that nobody helps him in his psychologic and spiritual distress, his search for meaning. Some passages of the text are presented and the novel is highly recommended for reading and thinking it over.
