K problému kauzality v medicíněPřípad virů a nádorů - část 1. Obecné zásady kauzálních studií v medicíně
Objasnění příčin chronických onemocnění jako je ateroskleróza či zhoubné nádory je jedním z hlavních úkolůsoučasného lékařského výzkumu. Všeobecně se věří, že poznání klíčových etiologických faktorů těchto nemocíumožní jejich účinnější prevenci a diagnostiku, a při nejmenším v některých případech též vytvoří předpoklady provývoj účinnějších terapeutických postupů. Jde o úkoly obtížné, protože v obou případech se jedná o nemoci, kterése vyvíjejí postupně a v jejichž vývoji se uplatňuje více příčinných faktorů. Článek popisuje současnou metodologiietiologických studií chronických chorob a zabývá se významem souborů kritérií pro určení jejich příčin.

Clarification of the aetiology of chronic human diseases such as atherosclerosis or cancer is one of the dominanttopics in the contemporary medical research. It is believed that identification of the causal factors will enable moreefficient prevention and diagnosis of these diseases and, in some instances, also permit more effective therapy. Thetask is difficult because of the multistep and multifactorial origin of these diseases. In this paper the author attemptsto review the present methodological approaches to aetiological studies of chronic diseases and discusses the roleof criteria for identifying causal relationships.
