V práci jsou uvedena základní fakta o funkci mm. scaleni a jsou diskutovány rozporné názory na jejich klasifikaci ve smyslu jejich zkrácení, spazmu a oslabení právě tak, jako rozpory v jejich významu při dýchání. Jsou demonstrovány hlavní principy diagnostikyjejich funkčních změn a jejich terapeutické ovlivnění.
