Náhradní terapie nikotinem zdvojnásobuje úspěšnost odvykání kouření a to při všech stupních intervence. Jejíúčinnost je tedy vyšší při intenzivnější podpoře. Volbu jednotlivých forem této léčby je možné nechat na pacientovi,protože se jejich účinnost nijak významně neliší. Náhradní terapie nikotinem by měla být nabídnuta každémukuřákovi, který je závislý na nikotinu a přeje si přestat kouřit. Pokud skutečně abstinuje, měl by ji užívat nejméně6–8 týdnů.

Nicotine replacement therapy doubles the success rate in smoking cessation during all intervention levels – so itseffectiveness is higher with the most intensive support. The patient can choose the NRT form since the effectivenessdoes not differ substantially. Nicotine replacement therapy should be offered to each nicotine dependent smokerwilling to stop. In the case ofab stinence the treatment should be taken at least 6 to 8 weeks.
