Autor seznamuje s principy klinické gerontologie zabývající se problematikou stárnoucího a starého člověka. Vymezuje kategorie: zdravý senior, nemocný starý člověk a geriatrický pacient, které mají mnoho společného a jejich vymezení nemusí být vždy jednoznačné. Zdůrazněn je diferencovaný pohled.
